PRESTON VOTERS PICK NORTHLAND TO DEVELOP FORMER HOSPITAL SITE

07.02.2008, Newton, MA - Northland Investment Corporation is pleased to announce that the firm has been chosen as the developer for the site of the former Norwich State Hospital in Preston, Connecticut. Endorsed by the Norwich Hospital Advisory Committee, the Preston Board of Selectmen, and The Norwich Bulletin, Preston residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of Northland’s proposal, Preston Green, on July 1, 2008.

Sited on 419 acres along the Thames River, Preston Green is a $1 billion mixed-use development focused around a town center. The project features two five-star hotels, a world-class spa, a riverfront marina, destination retail, seasonal and active adult residences, a variety of open space resources, and a championship 18-hole golf course. Preston Green includes the renovation and reuse of three existing Norwich State Hospital buildings, and has been designed to minimize impact on the environment, town services and roads while maximizing taxes and jobs.

Serving as a major catalyst for regional tourism, Preston Green will also provide an open and welcoming environment for all Preston residents. Resident amenities include a new Town Hall, a Town Common and gathering place for outdoor concerts, fairs and farmers’ markets, an outdoor skating rink, an expansive network of nature and walking trails, and public access to the waterfront for boating and other recreational activities.
