Northland Hires Real Estate Veteran Roman Stephens as Senior Vice President of Multifamily

Multifamily industry expert to play pivotal role in Northland’s property management operations, lead national teams and support expansion of firm’s portfolio

NEWTON, MA (April 5, 2021) – Northland Investment Corporation, one of the country’s leading real estate private equity firms with $10B of assets under management, today announced that Roman Stephens has been hired as Senior Vice President of Multifamily.

With a tenure of 20 years in the real estate investment industry, Stephens joins Northland from Camden Property Trust where he was Vice President of Operations. In his previous role, Stephens led his team through complex business challenges and drove the strategic vision for the firm’s Operations division, overseeing a 19,000-unit portfolio throughout Houston, Dallas, Austin, Denver, Corpus Christi and Atlanta. In his time at Camden, Stephens led five of the firm’s divisions and managed a team of over 500 members, working cross-functionally with the Investments Group, Asset Management, Construction, Finance and Marketing departments to ensure his long-term goal of operational excellence and unification of strategy across teams. Prior to his time at Camden, Stephens was an Asset Manager at Hines Interest L.P.

“I’m excited to join the Northland team and build on its longstanding commitment to its employees, residents and investors,” said Roman Stephens. “I look forward to contributing to its excellent reputation for leadership in the multifamily industry and making an impact on operations across the portfolio.”

In his new role, Stephens will work alongside President and Chief Operating Officer Suzanne Abair to oversee, direct, and develop all aspects of the company’s multifamily property management operations. As Senior Vice President, Roman will participate in and contribute toward Northland’s overall business strategy as the firm continues to expand its portfolio and provide essential leadership and guidance to the firm’s teams at the corporate, regional and community levels.

“Roman is first and foremost a phenomenal leader, a deeply committed innovator in multifamily operations, and an unwavering advocate for residents,” said Northland CEO Matthew Gottesdiener. “We are thrilled and fortunate to have him leading our operating platform and championing opportunities for growth and advancement across our organization.”

Stephens’s addition to Northland’s senior leadership team comes just months after Matthew Gottesdiener was elevated to CEO and Suzanne Abair was elevated to President and COO. As the company charts its long-term strategic direction and advances its social justice goals of combatting racism, empowering women, and ending homelessness, Northland will continue to bolster its long-standing track record as an industry leader.

Stephens holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Howard University, along with a Master of Business Administration in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin.
