Northland Brings Signs of HOPE to More Than 85 Communities Nationwide

Northland is working to increase awareness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline through the placement of “Signs of HOPE” across its residential portfolio, with signage being installed at more than 85 communities across the United States. 

Through the national Signs of HOPE initiative, Northland will install multiple signs at each community to provide residents with a visible reminder that free, confidential crisis support is available by calling or texting 988. To help make the resource accessible to more residents, Spanish-language exterior signage will also be installed at select communities.  

Installation commenced at the end of August, with the full rollout across Northland’s portfolio expected to be completed by the end of September. 

“Our onsite teams are not counselors, but they are in a unique position to help connect residents with resources that can make a difference when they need them most,” said David Scharfenberg, Senior Vice President of Operations at Northland. “By increasing awareness of the 988 Lifeline throughout our communities, we hope these signs serve as a simple but meaningful reminder that support is available.” 

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides 24/7 confidential support to people experiencing suicidal crisis or emotional distress through phone, text, and chat.
