Donation of Warehouse Space fuels growth of Local Nonprofit

Additional space means free sports attire and equipment for thousands of female athletes

NEWTON, MA (January 15, 2020) – Dream Big! today announced the expansion of a 2,652 square-foot warehouse space donated by landlord and Newton-based real estate investment company, Northland Investment Corporation. The new storage space enables Dream Big! to accept large scale donations of sports equipment, sports attire and athletic footwear from sponsors in the sporting goods industry and donations from corporate equipment drives held by local companies. This new space has allowed Dream Big! the ability to receive over $200,000 worth of recently donated sports attire and equipment that they have been distributing to female student athletes from low-income situations.

Dream Big! works to ensure that all girls and young women, regardless of socio-economic background, have the equipment, sports attire and program fees they need to participate in sports and physical activities that contribute to their health, education and overall well-being. With regular participation in physical activity during childhood and adolescence proven to promote the development of positive body image, confidence, and self-esteem, Dream Big! seeks and distributes donations of athletic equipment, uniforms, and footwear to fulfill the basic needs of girls and young women in elementary, middle, high school and college.

“Northland’s generous contribution comes at an especially significant time,” said Linda M. Driscoll, Dream Big! Founder, President and CEO. “The donated warehouse space allows us to accept more donations of sports equipment and sports attire than ever before as we seek to meet the increasing demand and deepen our impact now that we are celebrating our 10th anniversary. We are deeply grateful to Northland for this meaningful gift.”

In addition to accommodating a larger inventory of sports equipment and attire, the warehouse will be a welcoming space where coaches can bring their athletes to try on athletic clothing and select equipment, ensuring optimal sports performance and comfort.

“Northland is proud to support Dream Big! in its mission to empower young female athletes from underserved communities,” said Suzanne Abair, Chief Operating Officer of Northland Investment Corporation. “We believe in community investment in all its forms and are thrilled to offer this warehouse space to Dream Big! so they can expand their reach and make a positive difference in the lives of even more girls and young women.”

Since its launch, Dream Big! programs have had a direct impact on more than 45,000 girls and young women through grants of new sports equipment and attire, athletic footwear, program and training fees and the annual Dream Big! Leadership Conferences for middle and high school female athletes in urban communities. The organization is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year.
